DESCRIPTION:To be presented by Peter Lude\, CTO of Mission Rock Digital: \n
\nThe quality of digital video and audio has continued to advance over t
he past decade\, with remarkable progress in UltraHD television\, High Dyn
amic Range\, increased frame rates\, wider color gamut\, and object-based
immersive sound.  But for the most part\, these technologies have been sta
gnant in one area: they’ve preserved the paradigm of a planar (flat) recta
ngular viewing window\, whether displayed on your mobile phone\, a large-s
creen TV or a giant-screen theater. What would happen if you could remove
this constraint\, and create a viewing experience that was indistinguishab
le from real life – like the Holodeck from science fiction?  This dream is
still many years away\, but surprising advances are already being made in
capturing volumetric images\, displaying light fields and enabling a trul
y immersive sound field.  In this webinar\, you’ll learn what technical pa
rameters are required to enable a true “immersive” viewer experience\, and
where some current technologies (such as HDR\, 3D cinema and VR) hit or m
iss these goals. We’ll survey the latest advancements in immersive sound\,
light field imaging\, and computational cinematography.  Some of these ne
w immersive tools are already being prepared for commercial launch within
the next few years\, and new efforts have been launched to create intercha
nge and distribution standards for these new immersive technologies.
