Topic and Description
Presentation Topic: “Mixing Cine Workflows in Live Sports Productions to Tell a More Complete Story”

Description: Sports broadcasting has always been about “telling the story” to the fans and the audience. During a game or an event, we’ve become accustomed to seeing new developments to drive and enhance the story. Whether it was stereo audio, color video, high definition, super slo motion, enhanced graphics, HDR, helicopters, drones and so many other tools and techniques that are now expected from even the most basic production. NFL Films has been a pioneer over many decades of using film cameras to tell deeper stories that went beyond the game and allowed us unique views of individuals, teams, leagues and events like none other, but those weren’t live. The broadcasting of live games has always been mainly video cameras, broadcast lenses and broadcast workflows. Over the last few years, thanks to new and affordable technology, we’ve been exposed to workflows that are mixing broadcast and “film” together to allow multiple storylines to be told, in the best manner for each. During this roundtable, Ron Williams and Mark Chiolis will talk about these new solutions and workflows and how they can benefit the audience and enhance productions..

Roundtable Topic: New Live Production Workflows and Innovations Following the Pandemic – An Interactive Discussion

Description: The last 15 months have challenged all of us in many ways, both personal and professional. While there have been many negatives during this time there have also been some positives that will continue to drive the way we work for many years to come. Some have said that we quickly “jumped ahead” about 3 years implementing new workflows and solutions, just because we had no other choice if we wanted to survive. Chances that never would have normally been taken became the norm to just get the job done. In doing so we found out that what we thought were limits were overcome once we worked together to move ahead. Many companies have developed systems and solutions to fit the situation, moving production to remote locations, providing talent their own individual cameras and transmission system to interact with others in a live environment, moving equipment and operators to their home and giving them the tools to function together just as if they were in one studio or mobile unit. I will talk a little about the workflow Mobile TV Group created, called Cloud Control, but the goal is to have interactive discussions with the group to hear what your challenges and solutions were and to share them with the SMPTE audience.
