January 29
Best Practices For Live Stream Distribution
Day one (January 29th) will be hosted by Warner Bros. Discovery at their Hudson Yards facility. We will focus on the Best Practices for Live Stream Distribution effort. This effort aims to establish a set of best practices to simplify the process of standing up, securing and maintaining live streams sent from content providers to streaming services. As we all know, the landscape of streaming services is evolving daily, each with its own set of variables, making it virtually impossible to automate the management of these streams. We believe it is possible to rationalize and simplify these variables with a set of best practices. We also believe it’s possible to close some of the security holes that exist in today’s world of live stream distribution. We have an initial draft of a best practices document, including several threat models that we will review, along with contributions from organizations like SCTE, SVTA, and others. We welcome any and all contributions and suggestions to enhance the value of this work.

RIS-OSA Catena
Day two (January 30th) will be hosted by Dell Technologies at their Penn Plaza facility. On this day, the focus will be the control plane for media devices and services. RIS-OSA has been working on an initiative known as Catena, which is an open-source and open-standards approach to discovering and controlling everything from very small, simple microservices to very complex devices with thousands of control parameters. The goal is to have something that works equally well across vendors and across platforms (on-prem, private cloud, public cloud). We have been working with the IABM’s Control Plane working group on this challenge, as well. We have several initial draft documents that we will review and seek your input on at the meeting covering: Data Model, Connection Types (gRPC, REST, WSS) and Security.
